Switching from gas-powered to electric lawn equipment can reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly—equivalent to avoiding thousands of miles driven by a car each year—and can also reduce noise pollution dramatically, making neighborhoods quieter and more peaceful.

Electric mowers are significantly quieter than their gas-powered counterparts. The average gas-powered lawn mower operates at about 90-100 decibels, while electric models typically generate about 75 decibels. This reduction not only improves the quality of life for operators and residents but also complies better with local noise ordinances.
A reduction of 15-25 decibels can make the electric mower perceived as up to four times quieter than a gas mower. This reduction in noise pollution is crucial in residential areas, particularly in communities with strict noise regulations or where houses are closely spaced.

A 2015 study by the EPA highlighted that gasoline-powered lawn and garden equipment emitted approximately 26.7 million tons of air pollutants annually. Electric equipment, on the other hand, produces zero emissions at the point of use. If we assume that the average gas-powered lawn mower emits around 11 times more air pollutants per hour than a car, switching to electric mowers can substantially reduce these emissions.
To quantify, a typical gas mower running for one hour emits as much pollution as driving a car for about 100 miles. If an average lawn mowing session lasts about an hour and occurs weekly during the mowing season (approximately 30 weeks), switching to an electric mower could save the equivalent emissions of driving a car for 3,000 miles per year, per household.
